Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art microinverters and supporting products for ACPV applications. This individual will work with all relevant groups (EE, Reliability, Test, Product Marketing, and Operations etc.) to achieve program goals and meet critical time-to-market product deadlines. In this position you will drive cross-functional design reviews with the appropriate level of rigor and detail and ensure issues are closed with root cause and corrective action.

Responsibilities:

  • Create bills of materials and support the creation of 2D drawings.​
  • Design components and assemblies for microinverters and supporting hardware.
  • Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis to ensure designs meet or exceed reliability targets.​
  • Provide support to other groups such as Electrical Engineering, Reliability, and Regulatory.
  • Supervise designers and technicians on design and testing tasks.​
  • Function as engineering lead on tasks of moderate to high complexity.​
  • Cooperate with other mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on detailed design work.
  • Perform engineering duties at customer sites, or overseas when required.​

Required Background and Skills:

  • BSME with 5+ years experience in design of electronics enclosures, preferably for outdoor or harsh environments. MSME preferred.
  • Experience with design and specification of connectors and cables for rugged environments.
  • Expertise in design for environmental ingress mitigation or ruggedized electronic enclosures is highly desirable.
  • Experience designing sheet-metal, injection molded, and cast parts for high volume manufacturing.
  • Extensive experience in 3D modeling, preferably using Solidworks.
  • Expertise in Six Sigma tolerance analysis and interpretation for complex assemblies.
  • Competence in structural analysis and interpretation using FEA, preferably using Cosmos.
  • Experience with thermal design and analysis using CFD as well as basic hand calculations.
  • Experience in working with overseas suppliers in Asia.
