Senior Reliability Engineer

Position Summary:

The Senior Reliability Engineer will be responsible for implementation of a comprehensive reliability program for a solar microinverter with a 25-year warranty. Responsibilities include overseeing Design for Reliability (DfR), accelerated testing and failure analysis/corrective action. This position is open immediately and is located in Austin, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and document a product reliability test strategy that addresses all aspects of reliability test from early prototype through ongoing production reliability testing
  • Oversee implementation of reliability test plan and documentation of results including schedules for completion of reliability testing and coordination of chamber and test equipment availability
  • Work with design and failure analysis engineers to identify root cause of all test failures to identify reliability risks
  • Coordinate with designers, component suppliers and manufacturing engineers to implement corrective action
  • Collate failure data from design, test, factory and field returns and feed lessons learned back to component derating, DFR and DFM guidelines and component AVL
  • Manage in-house failure analysis laboratory
  • Actively participate in Design Reviews to assure reliability best practices are incorporated into new designs
  • Work with component engineers to develop and implement qualification strategies for critical new components
  • Frequently interact with customers relating to all aspects of product reliability

Skills:

  • Experience with developing test profiles for environmental chamber accelerated tests
  • Experience with HALT and HASS
  • Working knowledge of test engineering including specifying test equipment for use in reliability testing and design of rugged test fixtures
  • Understanding of materials properties of all electrical and mechanical components used in power products to identify reliability risks under long-term exposure to aggressive outdoor environments
  • Detailed understanding of physics of failure and analytical tools used for failure analysis including sample preparation techniques and materials analysis tools including X-Ray, SEM/EDX, FTIR, CSAM, and others
  • Knowledge of methods of DFMEA, PFMEA, and statistical analysis
  • Coordination of reliability improvement programs including driving corrective action of complex failure mechanisms
  • Knowledge of basic power supply circuit operation including the ability to follow a schematic and assist in approaches to troubleshooting failures
  • Experience with potting and conformal coating desirable
  • Knowledge of outdoor use environments and their effect on product reliability
  • Experience with publishing and presenting reliability technical papers

Qualifications:

  • BSEE or BS Physics with 5+ years experience in reliability engineering. MS in a related field is desirable.
