CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (December 8, 2008) – SmartSpark Energy Systems, a leader in power electronics innovation for solar energy, announced today the appointment of Noel Foley as Vice President of Engineering and Joseph Scarci as Vice President of Marketing. Frederick Krein, former President and CEO, will continue in the company in the newly created role of Vice President of Finance and Administration. These executives are tasked with leading the development and product launch of SolarBridge, a panel-integrated microinverter designed to lower the cost of residential and light commercial solar power.

Noel Foley comes to SmartSpark from Dell Computer Corporation with a strong background in design and engineering management with specific experience in compliance engineering and mechanical and electrical design. “I am excited to be joining SmartSpark, whose breakthrough intellectual property will contribute to meeting our energy needs in the future” said Foley.

Joseph Scarci joins SmartSpark after eleven years of service at American Power Conversion. He has demonstrated knowledge in strategic planning and new product development accompanied by proven sales skills. “I look forward to helping accelerate the solar industry’s drive toward grid parity with SmartSpark’s unprecedented microinverter reliability which reduces the total cost of ownership” said Scarci.

Frederick Krein will continue with SmartSpark after securing Series A financing from Battery Ventures and winning a contract for the company from the SEGIS program (a joint effort of the U.S. Dept. of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories). Krein said, “Power electronics are an overlooked component of the solar system. It is a tremendous opportunity to continue to be a part of this development.”

“I am very pleased to have all three of these individuals on board to round out our leadership team as we take our organization to the next level” said President and CEO Ron Van Dell.
